Hitting Barrage
In yesterday’s 8-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Casey McGehee went 4-4 with 1 HR and 3 RBI’s. He also broke a team record; he currently has nine hits in a row. Tonight, he will have a chance to break the all-time record of 12 hits in a row, which was done in 1938 is held by Pinky Higgins and in 1952 by Walt Dropo.
His chances will be even greater because in the game tonight against the Colorado Rockies, the Rockies will send Jorge De La Rosa to the mound. His record for this season is 4-3 with a 5.01 ERA. The opportunity for him to be history looks like it will be the highlight of the Brewers season since they are 11.5 games out of first place in the NL Central Division.
The Worst Team In Baseball
Because of the Baltimore Orioles turnaround since Buck Showalter became the manager, the Pittsburgh Pirates are now the worse team in baseball. On Wednesday, Baltimore passed Pittsburgh and now hold a 1/2 game lead; thus, making the Pirates the worse team in the MLB. To make matters even worse, Baltimore plays tougher teams by being in the American League and are in the AL Eastern Division which has the top two teams in baseball based upon record: the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays. Hopefully, Pittsburgh can pick up enough wins or they will end up being the worst team in baseball.
Rangers Hold Their Own
The Texas Rangers passed the litmus test by splitting a two game series with the New York Yankees this week. Both games were rather exciting. The Rangers were able to score off of Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the tenth inning to win 4-3 Tuesday evening. To be able to hit one of the best closers to ever pitch in baseball will be a confidence boost for Texas if both teams meet again in the AL Playoffs. On Wednesday night, the Yankees were able to win 7-6. The confidence gained was nullified as the Yankees came back from a 6-1 deficit to win the game.
Nevertheless, splitting a series with the best team in baseball is nothing to be ashamed. Texas still remains 7.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
The Passing Out Pool
How many workplaces have started a Passing Out Pool for Minnesota Vikings safety Husain Abdullah? None. Really, you should start one. This past Wednesday was the start of the month of Ramadan on the Muslim calendar. During this month, no Muslims are allowed to eat or drink anything from sunrise to sunset. So, when Abdullah, a practicing Muslim, is practicing at Vikings camp in the daytime in 90 degree heat, he will not be able to replenish himself with fluids until the sun goes past the western horizon.
What happens when a person is in 90 degree heat for a long period of time with no water? That person usually passes out from dehydration. So start a pool to see which day he will pass out during Vikings training camp.
