This story ran in my hometown newspaper in Northeast Ohio about a father from Chardon, OH who is suing an assistant baseball coach for attempted assault and battery claiming the coach told his pitcher to throw at his son.
Deadspin.com picked up the story, publishing it under the headline Pussification of Youth Sports Reaches New Nadir.
As I mentioned, I grew up in Chardon, OH and reading that such a stupid lawsuit was filed doesn’t really surprise me. If you played sports, you know a lot of shady things happen on the field that would never fly in the real world… but you accept it and play on. This is just another example of parents getting way too involved and over reacting about something happening during play.
So I ask… what is the world coming to? I took so many cheap shots playing sports for nearly two decades and so did my teammates, but I never heard anyone’s parents threatening to sue over it. No wonder kids act like such pansies these days.
