Brewers Move Into Third Place

What is that sound that you hear?  It is the sound of Prince Fielder’s bat heating up.  In yesterday’s 7-5 win over the Houston Astros, Fielder smacked two homers to up his season total to 17.  He started off slow in April, but he is making up for lost time.  One reason for the hot bat is because of a change in the lineup.

Brewers manager Ken Macha moved RF Corey Hart in the lineup from 5th to 2nd in between Rickie Weeks and Fielder.  Since the move has been made, the lowest the Brewers have scored in a game is three.  With the Brewers being 7-3 in their last ten, they are now in third place.  Also, they are now only eight games out of first.  A very crappy outlook is now starting to look less cloudy after the All Star break.

Pirates Keep Losing

The Pittsburgh Pirates are so bad now that they even lost to the Chicago Cubs last night 3-1.  The Pirates are now 8-3 against the Cubs.  Unfortunately, for Pittsburgh, they are 18-48 against the rest of the major leagues.  The woes for the city will continue this year.  First, the Penguins were ousted early in the NHL playoffs.  Now, the Pirates are the worst team in the National League.  Finally, Pittsburgh will have to start the season without QB Ben Roethlisberger.

Rangers Still In First

The Texas Rangers remain 4 1/2 games in first place after losing 6-5 to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  It was DH Vladimir Guerrero’s first visit back to Anaheim as an opposing player.  He felt right at home going 2-4 with a home run.  Even with this loss, the Rangers are 8-2 in their last ten games.

OF Josh Hamilton also extended his hitting streak to 22 games after going 1 for 5.  During the hitting streak, he is batting .477.  He appears that he has learned his lesson from two seasons ago and will not participate in the Home Run Derby.  Hopefully, he won’t relapse either.

Go White Sox!!!!

About a month ago, the Chicago White Sox were virtually left for dead as they were mired in the bottom of the AL Central along with the Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Indians.  Now, the White Sox are only a game and a half out of first place.  What has brought about the huge turnaround?  The key is that the White Sox has the best one-run record in the majors at 16-8.  Learning how to deal with pressure will always guarantee success in the future.  Go White Sox!

Team USA Disappointment

To make the USA loss over Ghana even more disappointing, out of the eight teams that lost in the knockout round of 16, the USA was the only team that won a group.  What the loss proves is that the USA does not have the necessary depth to ever become a world class soccer team.  Plus, all of the athletes in the USA play football, baseball, or basketball.  I am still picking the Netherlands to win because I want to see a riot in South Africa because of its past history.

South Carolina Wins College World Series!

Congratulations to South Carolina winning their first ever College World Series over UCLA.  South Carolina swept both games, clinching the series with a 2-1 victory in eleven innings.  South Carolina was able to tie the game up in the bottom of the eighth when a ground ball went off of UCLA 1B Dean Espy’s glove.  After the inning was over, a frustrated Espy punched the wall in the dugout.  He watched the rest of the game from the dugout with ice on his hand instead of being able to help his Bruin teammates in extra innings.  People need to learn how to control themselves.

Since South Carolina won the College World Series, now the state of South Carolina can now work on eliminating the Confederacy flag from the South Carolina State Capitol building.  I believe the Confederacy lost the Civil War; the Confederacy is for losers.  More than likely, the team will be invited to the State Capitol sometime in the future.  Why force those winners to stand under a flag of losers?
