BOSMA’S BREAKDOWN

Lord Stanley has an open mind
The Stanley Cup has been many places while belonging to the Chicago Blackhawks, but this weekend it went to a place it had previously never been: a gay pride parade. Anyone who has visited Chicago and gotten near the Belmont/Halsted intersection knows the area is not your run of the mill quiet neighborhood. It’s full of, well.. pride, and it’s called Boys Town for a reason.

It’s nice to see Lord Stanley’s Cup doesn’t discriminate and that Brent Sopel took it to the parade for a good cause.

Soccer goes home
The World Cup inspired me to drop two soccer-related articles onto the front page of this site. Now that the U.S. has been eliminated from the tournament, I wanted to make sure there was a disclaimer here to let all readers know that if you see a soccer headline on this site again, it means someone involved with a soccer team did something stupid.

Now that one cares anymore, I will say this: the World Cup was like a one night stand. Enjoyable for a short time but if you hang around too long after, things start to get awkward. Until 2014, there’s the door soccer.. please don’t leave anything.

Clouds darken over Cleveland
Reports have surfaced from different sources that it is “a done deal” that LeBron James will sign with the Chicago Bulls or Miami Heat. As teams with the proper cap space get ready to fly to Akron, OH to court King James, fans in Cleveland better be worrying. At the end of everyday it appears more and more like LBJ will take his basketball skills to another drooling fan base that isn’t 30 minutes north of his home town.

I have no proof or inside scoop as to where LeBron will go, but deep down I’m getting the same feeling I got with CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Manny Ramirez, and Jim Thome. The Cavs will be joining the Indians in becoming a Cleveland sports franchise that cannot hold onto the most important pieces of its infrastructure. The only difference is, I don’t see the Cavs surviving it.
