BOSMA’S BREAKDOWN
Instead of sitting down and doing a bunch of research for an article, I decided I’d just put all my thoughts about the sports world in an article and publish. It’s part cold-call, part random musing, and 100% efficient.. so here it goes:
Jets to release Thomas Jones. Jones is scheduled to make $5.8 million this season, in an uncapped year, in the last year of his contract… yet, the Jets are letting him go because he’s 32 and the team has Shonn Greene and Leon Washington waiting in the wings. All Jones did last year was lead the best rushing team in the league, but who cares, right? Jones seems like a bargain at that price, so I don’t like the move. I’m in full campaign mode for Thomas to join brother Julius in Seattle for an all-Jones backfield in 2010.
Canada wins the gold. What a game. Sidney Crosby’s overtime goal for the win just gives me another reason to dislike him, but I applaud the U.S. team more than the Canadians. Why? Well, because I’m American and the U.S. team “wasn’t even supposed to be there.” See you in 2014, Canada.
Bruce Bowen. The former San Antonio Spurs defensive player of the year has been on ESPN almost as much as SportsCenter lately. Fine, I’m okay with that. But get rid of the bow tie. I know folks are trying to make it stylish, but it just isn’t… and it never will be. Mix in a tie, please.
Tim Tebow. First of all, I just don’t see Tebow as an NFL quarterback. It seems like a lot to ask for a QB to completely change his throwing motion and mechanics 7 weeks before the draft. Unless a team takes a chance and gives him a few years to sit back and figure everything out, he doesn’t have a chance. He’s had a freakish combine, but all it’s done is entice NFL GM’s to draft him and stick him at tight end of H-back.
Shaq’s injury. There’s a good chance this is the best thing that can happen to the Cavs right now. The only time they need Shaq is in the playoffs against the magic. The 6-8 week injury will give Cleveland the opportunity to create an offense that includes a lot of opportunities for newly-acquired Antawn Jamison. Jamison was brought in to be the final piece of a championship team and now the Cavs have a chance to really see how he fits into the offense.
Lebron’s number change. Great… just make sure that #6 is planted on a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey.
Syracuse moves to No. 1. The ‘Cuse is 7-0 against ranked opponents and powering through a top-heavy Big East conference. The Orange will be a force in the tournament regardless of their regular season rank, so while the No. 1 rank is great, nothing really matters until March Madness gets under way.
Gatorade dumps Tiger. Gatorade will regret this move if TIger Woods comes back, starts rattling off majors (which he will) and then signs with Powerade (which he should). I understand why these sponsors are being “politically correct” and dropping Tiger, but let’s be honest, this whole escapade is just a bump in the road for Tiger.
