You’ll have to start off by excusing me if this edition of NFL BlindSides is incoherent and rambling. Knee surgery and pain medication will do that to you. Needless to say, I wish the surgery had taken place Sunday at 3:15 pm CST, which would have directly interfered with me watching the Dallas Cowboys continue to implode. Why is it that when the weather outside is frightful, the Cowboys become frightful to watch? More on this later, let’s get to the BlindSides….
1-win teams: 2
Undefeated teams: 2
CLE 13, PIT 6 – I would describe this as the most embarrassing loss in the history of the Steelers organization. You can’t let a rival you’ve beaten 12 times in a row turn the tables when they’re having one of the worst seasons in their existence. Regardless, a great win for Cleveland. Hopefully it doesn’t fool Randy Lerner into thinking Mangini should stick around any longer than 16 games.
NO 26, ATL 23 – Ho-hum for the Saints. Tough opponent, but it didn’t matter. The Saints are resilient and look to be a team of destiny. With the Cowboys coming to town Saturday, the undefeated record doesn’t appear to be in too much jeopardy.
BAL 48, DET 3 – The Ravens probably thought this was a statement game. They probably thought they would come into the game and “show the world what they can do.” Of course, it’s the Ravens, and they’re delusional. A win over the Lions is nothing to celebrate.
GB 21, CHI 14 - Bad body language/attitude from Cutler is starting to get national coverage. Makes me wonder what’s going on in the locker room. I have to say, I see no reason the Bears could bring back their coaching staff. Wrong players, wrong situation. Blow it up, start over, or you’ll never find out what kind of QB you’ve got.
IND 28, DEN 16 – The Colts continue to flirt with the football gods by saying they will rest their players and not go for the undefeated season. How is this a proven method for winning? It’s not and historically hasn’t been in Indy. Go for the record.
MIA 14, JAC 10 – I would have rather watched this game than Dallas/San Diego.
BUF 16, KC 10 – I would have rather watched this game than Dallas/San Diego
MIN 30, CIN 10 - I hope you saw Ochocinco get his face blown up by the Vikings secondary. I hope you also saw how he shook it off and continued to play. It’s nice to see Ocho back up his talk. It’s also nice to see it catch up to him now and then.
HOU 34, SEA 7 – zzzzzzzzzzzz. Seattle is such a disappointment, and of course, now that the game doesn’t mean a thing, the Texans show up to play.
NE 20, CAR 10 – What’s all this Randy Moss fuss? The Patriots won, right? Just call it like it is. Moss only cares about himself, but the Patriots can win without him. Clearly.
NYJ 26, TB 3 – I would have rather watched this game than Dallas/San Diego.
TEN 47, STL 7 – Think about this. If the Rams get the #1 pick and they take Nebraska DE Ndemakong Suh, they will have racked up the following GREAT college defenders in the past 3 years: Chris Long, James Laurenitis and Suh. Talk about building a great young defense.
WAS 34, OAK 13 - If you had to watch this game, I’m sorry. Hopefully Gradkowski will go down soon so the NFL can be reintroduced to Charles Frye.
SD 20, DAL 17 – So much for everything being Romo’s fault. Romo has been playing great in December but the Cowboys 1) can’t score from the 1-yard line 2) can’t cover receivers taller than 6-feet and 3) can’t tackle in the open field. Recipe for disaster? Yes. Coincidence it always catches up to them in December? Not sure any more.
PHI 45, NYG 38 – Michael Vick is starting to look like a viable threat for Philadelphia.. and the playoffs are right around the corner. Scary.
SF 24, ARI 9 - This score surprised me. However, it sure makes the NFC West race much more interesting. One thing that is a constant in SF: the 49ers always play with heart under Mike Singletary
