Here it is, the final countdown, just days until James Harrison rips the face off of every Tennessee Titan. (I have Harrison on a fantasy team in an IDP league.) For me this is Christmas, Halloween and the Fourth of July all rolled up into one. For the last two weeks I have been singing the song, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” on loop. My wife is ready to strangle me if she hears it one more time.
Gang Grizzle will be taking on the Houston Texans in week one and as odd as it sounds, it could be a must win game. The Jets head into the game as 5 and a ½ point underdogs, but I still think it is best to always bet on green. After the Texans the Jets play the Patriots and then the very formidable Tennessee Titans in week two. If the Jets manage to lose the first game to the Texans, they could be 0 and 3 very fast. Week one has the potential to disappoint Jets fans who are hoping for a big year. Although Mark Sanchez looked fantastic in the preseason, there is no telling how good he will be in the regular season, and that could be very bad.
In other Jets news….
The New York Daily News is reporting that the Jets are out of the Brandon Marshall debate. Although the Jets are still looking for a receiver, Marshall will not be that guy. Many in the blog world think the Jets are targeting Kansas City’s Dwayne Bowe.
No team ever goes into the season with four quarterbacks on the active roster, so look for the Jets to move one of their young quarterbacks (not Sanchez of course) and a draft pick or two for a receiver upgrade.
It is put up or shut up time for Vernon Gholston as he fills in for the suspended Calvin Pace. Currently, Gholston is the biggest Jets draft bust of the decade. And that is saying something.
Steve Weatherford will be the opening day punter. The Jets cut A.J. Trapasso even though he has a very snazzy first name. Weatherford is a three year NFL veteran who has played for Kansas City, New Orleans and Jacksonville.
Did you know you can follow the Jets on Twitter. They have a feed on their website nyjets.com that keeps track of what the Jets are saying at any given time.
