Tribe Testing Unchartered Waters
By: Tony Bosma | Wednesday May 27th, 2009

Tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays has the potential to be a historic moment of the Cleveland Indians’ 2009 season. It brings flashbacks of the movie Major League.

Unfortunately, not the vision of a woeful team going from worst to first – but it could be a stepping stone.

Yes, the Tribe has won two in a row. One more and the team will have that little thing they call a win streak.

One may consider two games in a row a win streak, but let’s be honest, anything below three in a row isn’t that noteworthy, especially for a team that hasn’t had a season sweep since September 21, 2008 against Detroit. The Tribe have been swept by Texas and Detroit this year.

The Indians have had back-to-back wins four times this year: April 15-16 (def. Kansas City and New York), May 13-14 (def. Chicago and Tampa Bay), May 20-21 (def. Kansas City) and May 25-26 (def. Tampa Bay).

A series sweep of the Rays could be the crucial confidence builder this team has lacked all season. However, there’s no reason to jump too far ahead. A win tonight would get the Tribe their three-game win steak. It will take a win tonight and tomorrow to get a sweep.

The world of win streaks is like that of any other – you must learn to crawl before you can walk.
